Greece Intends to Expedite the Implementation of the Burgas-Alexandroupolis Project
07 Jun 2010 | RIA Novosti | Greece plans to speed up the implementation of the project to build the Burgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline, said the Head of the Greek gas operator DESFA Georgios Paparsenos, speaking on Monday at a briefing on the results of meetings of the combined Russian-Greek Commission on Cooperation.
"Today we confirmed our intention to continue the implementation of the Burgas-Alexandroupolis project. We undertook the obligation to speed it up", - said the official.
Representatives of the Russian-Greek Commission also commented on the position of Bulgaria regarding the implementation of this project. Last year the Russian Energy Ministry expressed concern that differences of opinion between Bulgaria and the other participants in the project may have a damaging effect on it. However in December speaking on the results of meetings of the Russian-Bulgarian Intergovernmental Commission the Russian Energy Ministry spokesman said Bulgaria is interested in the joint implementation of energy projects with Russia, including Burgas-Alexandroupolis.
Thus the deputy Minister of Transportation of Russia Igor Levitin, who was the co-chairman of the joint Commission, said Bulgaria is not refusing to participate, it has taken a pause in the implementation of the project.
"They took a pause to study the details more carefully", - he said.
At the same time the legal entities in Russia and Greece did not suspend their work on the project, specialists from Energy Ministries of the two countries are discussing certain details, the deputy Minister said.
"We reiterate in our joint protocol that our countries have retained their interest in the project", - Mr. Levitin stressed.
